   The film begins with the myth of ‘Prometheus Bound,’ who stole fire from the gods and was punished by Zeus. 

      The film associates fire with knowledge. Attributing to this the reason for Prometheus' eternal punishment. But in the myth written by Aeschylus, Prometheus, when asked by the nymphs about the reason for his eternal punishment, being pecked at the liver that was rebuilding itself, replies: ‘I took away men's vision of the future.’  For until then, both gods and men knew the future. And the nymphs ask: 

‘But why did you do that?’   Prometheus says: ‘To give them blind hope.’      They reply: ‘What a great good for mortals.’  

     In the second testament, John tells us that God is the Word. Or speech. Sound, words with their meanings, is what enables us to think. Human thinking. And with thought, we construct concepts and knowledge about the world and about ourselves. We just don't know the hour of our death, to return to Prometheus.

     Knowledge and thought are part of the human condition. In themselves, there is nothing wrong with them. We can learn from our own experiences and those of our fellow human beings. Perhaps this characteristic is responsible for our survival over other species. 

     Why, then, as the film shows us, can knowledge, or rather our capacity for understanding, be so dangerous? For us and for others?  I think the film wants to remind us that all our creative and intellectual capacity, or the power achieved through economic or diplomatic means, can be used to attack the world and our own species. As Freud reminds us: ‘Man is wolf to man.’

    Any and all human creations can be used as instruments to destroy or cause pain to others, if motivated by the principle of being better or more deserving than those others. Throughout our history, the desire to dominate has existed both in the sense of enjoying the physical body of another and in the sense of exploiting labour, as in the case of slavery. The desire for domination is based on feelings of envy of the abilities recognised in others. The more I recognise  value that I do not have in myself or in my land, the more I hate those who have it, the more  I need it not to exist in others either. That is why I have to destroy it. Either by destroying it physically  or by subjugating it to my will. Money, social power, brute force or even knowledge can be used for this purpose.

     The desire for destruction is also a way of denying our own human frailty. The desire to be the strongest, indestructible and self-sufficient. Perhaps because we are a species that requires more time to mature. We need to believe that we can postpone death according to our will. Denying that we are fragile not only physically but also mentally, and that we came from dust and to dust we shall return. 

      An interesting aspect of the film is the criticism that appears in the arrogance of the imagination of power, which believes that no one else in the world could create a nuclear bomb besides the Americans. Einstein, the discoverer of atomic fission, was born and raised in Germany. 

   O filme relata fatos históricos como a produção da primeira bomba nuclear , baseada na divisão atômica , feita no mundo.

   O filme começa com o mito de “ Prometeu Acorrentado”  que rouba o fogo dos deuses e  foi castigado por Zeus. 

     O filme associa o fogo ao conhecimento. Atribuindo a este o motivo do castigo eterno de Prometeu. Mas, no mito , escrito por Esquilo, o fogo , dito por Prometeu às ninfas, quando foi questionado pelo motivo de seu castigo eterno, sendo bicado no fígado que se reconstruía, responde: “ do futuro tirei dos homens a visão “.  Pois até então, tanto os deuses. quanto os homens. conheciam o futuro . E as ninfas perguntam: 

“Mas porquê fizeste isso?”   Prometeu diz: “ para lhes dá a cega esperança”. Elas respondem :“ que grande bem para os  mortais” .  

     No segundo testamento João nos diz que Deus é verbo. Ou palavra. O som , as palavras com seus significados é o que possibilita nosso pensar. O pensar humano. E com o pensamento construímos conceitos e  conhecimentos sobre o mundo e sobre nós próprios. Só não conhecemos a hora da morte , retomando Prometeu.

    Logo o conhecimento , o pensamento, faz parte do modo de ser humano. Em si , não tem nada de mal. Podemos aprender com nossa experiência e com a experiência do nosso semelhante. Talvez essa característica seja a responsável por termos sobrevividos à outras espécies, até. 

    Porque , então, como nos traz o filme o conhecimento, ou melhor, nossa capacidade de compreensão pode ser tão perigosa. Para nós e para os outros?  Acho que o filme quer nos lembrar que toda nossa capacidade criativa , intelectual, ou o poder alcançado por meios econômicos ou diplomáticos podem ser usados para o ataque ao mundo e à nossa própria espécie. Como nos recorda Freud : “Homem o lobo do homem”.

     Toda e qualquer criação humana pode ser usada como instrumento para destruir ou causar dor em outros, se este for movido pelo  princípio de ser melhor ou mais merecedor do que esses outros. Durante toda nossa história o desejo de dominar existiu tanto no sentido de usufruir do corpo físico de outro  quanto no sentido de explorar o trabalho , como no caso da escravidão.  O desejo de dominação se apoia no sentimento de inveja da capacidade que se reconhece nos outros. Quanto mais reconheço  valor que não tenho em mim, ou na minha terra, mais odeio a quem o tem ,mais  preciso que esse também não exista no outro. Por isso tenho de acabar com ele. Ou acabando fisicamente  ou subjugando-o à minha vontade. O dinheiro, o poder social, ou a força bruta ou até o conhecimento pode ser usado pra isso.

      Vontade de destruição também é uma forma de negar a própria fragilidade humana. Desejo de ser o mais forte, indestrutível e auto- suficiente. Talvez até por sermos uma espécie que requer mais tempo no processo de maturação.  Precisamos acreditar que podemos adiar a morte segundo nossa vontade. Negando que somos frágeis não só fisicamente mas também mentalmente e que  do pó viemos e ao pó voltaremos. 

     Interessante no filme, a crítica que aparece na arrogância da  imaginação do poder que , acredita que mais ninguém no mundo poderia criar bomba nuclear, além dos norte americanos. Sendo Einstein o descobridor da divisão atômica , nascido e criado na Alemanha.
