    This film is about Jean, a nurse who is determined to work with a physiologist  who is researching female infertility. She is very determined and gets the job. 

    Jean and Robert contact a doctor who is developing a laparoscopy procedure that allows them to see the development of the egg and the fertilisation process. 

   They convince Dr Patrick to participate in Robert's research, which he is conducting at another university.

    The research begins in the doctor's town, which is ten hours away from Jean and Robert's home.

With the help of a nurse from the hospital, they form a group of women who are unable to conceive. The female candidates take hormone injections that induce egg formation. They were named by the group itself as the ‘Egg Club’.

   After years of trying and  a tubal pregnancy , they realise that fertilisation outside the body , in a laboratory , would be more controllable and easier to achieve.   Through  laparoscopy, Dr Patrick removes the eggs. 

The fertilised egg develops in controlled substances with specific protocols and, after cell division has begun , is placed directly into the uterus. 

  However, initially, the difficulty of keeping the egg in place led to losses that discouraged the experimental process. This was overcome by the administration of hormones.

Jean was so maternal that she gave all her hope to the ‘Ovary Club’, donating her love and care. The hope of being a mother, which no longer existed for her, she shares out of empathy with other women who also have the same desire, and she takes care to ensure that the candidates for future mothers do not give up.

     Jean has to interrupt her work after a disagreement with Robert. She needs to take care of her mother, who does not want to see her because of her job. She learns from the vicar of the church she used to attend, and where she is no longer welcome, that her mother is ill. At this moment, she is also experiencing her motherhood when she insists on taking care of her mother. She reveals to her mother  the difficulty she has had getting pregnant and thus  manages to share the reason she chose to work on this research. Jean is so generous that, instead of reacting with denial or envy towards fertile women and their babies, she chooses to help them. She chooses to offer her life, her work, so that other women, despite medical difficulties, can have the possibility of fulfilling their desire for motherhood.

    Jean is the mother of the research. Without her, the research stops. Without the mother, the baby is not born. And, after the death of her surrogate mother, she reorganises the group to continue the research. Abandoning the ‘Ovary Club’ is like aborting everyone's babies. The motherhood within her cannot tolerate this. She must continue. Her belief in the achievement of ‘in vitro fertility’ is intertwined with her own motherhood.

     Recognising Jean's merit in this project, which won a Nobel Prize, is not enough. As Robert says, without her, the project would not exist. She was the body and soul that made it possible to give all women with medical problems the joy of giving birth and caring for someone. Jean lives on in all these babies born through IVF.

   Therefore, this tribute and recognition of  this woman's participation in the process of ‘in vitro fertilisation’  is well deserved and important.

    Only a great woman with a great womb  would exchange the desire to steal other women's babies out of envy  for the desire to support, welcome and dedicate herself to fulfilling other women's desire for motherhood.

   

  JOY. : um pequeno milagre

    Esse filme é sobre Jean, enfermeira que está determinada a trabalhar com um fisiologista  que está pesquisando infertilidade feminina. Ela é bem determinada e consegue o trabalho. 

   Jean e Robert entram em contato com um médico que está desenvolvendo o procedimento  de  “ laparoscopia” que serve para ver desenvolvimento do óvulo e processo de fertilização. 

   Eles convencem ao Dr. Patrick a participar das pesquisas que o Robert desenvlve em outra Universidade.

   A pesquisa começa na cidade do médico que fica à10 horas de distância da casa de Jean e de Robert.

   Com ajuda de uma enfermeira do Hospital formam um grupo de mulheres que não conseguem engravidar. As mulheres candidatas tomam injeção hormonal que induz a formação de óvulos . Foram nomeadas pelo próprio grupo  de “Club dos Ovulos”

     Após anos de tentativas e  uma gravidez tubária , percebem que a fertilização fora do corpo , em laboratório , ficaria mais controlável e mais fácil de acontecer.   Através  da laparoscopia dr. Patrick retira os óvulos. 

   O óvulo fecundado se desenvolve em substâncias controladas com protocolos específicos e após iniciada a divisão celular , é instalado diretamente no útero. 

     Mas a início  a  dificuldade de manter o óvulo fixado levou a perdas que desestimularam o processo do experimento. O que foi contornado pela administração de hormônios.

      Jean era tão maternal que deu para o “Club do Ovário” toda sua esperança , doando seu amor e cuidado. A esperança de ser mãe, que nela  não mais existia,  por empatia ela divide com as outras mulheres que também tem o mesmo desejo e , cuida para que as candidatas à  futuras mães, não desistam.

     Jean é a mãe da pesquisa. Sem ela , a pesquisa pára. Sem a mãe esse bebê não nasce. E ,após o falecimento de seu bebe-mãe , ela reorganiza o grupo para dar continuidade da pesquisa.  Abandonar  o “ Club do Ovário “ é como  abortar os bebês, de todas. A maternidade dentro dela não tolera. Tem de continuar. A crença dela na realização da “fertilidade in vitro” se  confunde com a propria maternalidade dentro de si.

     Reconhecer o mérito de Jean ,nesse projeto, que vence um Prêmio Nobel , é pouco. Como diz Robert sem ela não existiria o projeto. Ela foi o corpo e a alma que possibilitou dar a todas as mulheres, com problemas médicos, a alegria de parir e cuidar de alguém.  Jean vive em todos esses bebês nascidos da FIV..

     Logo, esse tributo e reconhecimento de  participação dessa mulher no processo de “ Fertilização  in Vitro”  é muito merecido e importante.

    Só uma grande mulher com um grande útero , troca o desejo de roubar o bebê de outras mulheres , por inveja,  pelo desejo de amparar e acolher e se dedicar para a realização do desejo da maternidade de outras mulheres.
