  O filme inicia com almoço  de três jovens em um restaurante que é da família. Um jovem está comendo e após provar a comida de Aoy, lhe dá um cartão de um restaurante muito famoso e diz a ela qua a vê amanhã naquele endereço. No almoço  comentam a dificuldade de se inserir em um mercado de trabalho  quando se provém de uma família sem dinheiro e sem  contatos com pessoas influentes, mesmo após os estudos universitários. No meio do almoço de seu pai um policial o chama para retirar seu carro que está estacionado em frente ao próprio restaurante afim de dar vaga a um outro carro que é de luxo. Seu pai ainda, humildemente agradece ao policial ( provavelmente por não tê-lo multado) Aoy olha esse acontecimento e da pra perceber um sentimento de revolta.

   Aoy  é a cozinheira principal do restaurante junto com seu pai. Ela não está satisfeita com essa função. Resolve pesquisar sobre o restaurante do cartão onde o rapaz trabalha. E decide ir ver como é . Até pra melhorar  a vida de sua família. Lá faz um teste que dura toda uma noite e entre muita transpiração e queimaduras ,acerta o ponto perfeito da fritura ,com aprovação do Chef. 

   Aoy é aprovada para a equipe do Chef Paul mas se demite quando percebe que mata aves ilegalmente para agradar seus fregueses. 

   O Chef Paul é muito exigente com seus funcionários e após acusar um deles de roubo de comida acaba por ser esfaqueado. No hospital comenta pra Aoy porque escolheu essa carreira . Era filho de empregada e ele mesmo não podia comer certas comidas dos donos da casa. Uma vez pegou um vidro de caviar da patroa de sua mãe que deixou cair, partindo o vidro. Mas ele provou. A delícia da iguaria  acabou por despertar uma fome nele que o fez escolher proporcionar isso aos seus clientes ricos. Como esse fato foi  traumático em sua infância,  pois fez sua mãe trabalhar pra pagar a despesa do desperdício do caviar, ele identificou-se com o agressor e, portanto, só admitia oferecer a comida apetitosa à pessoas ricas.

  Aoy se aproxima do Sous-chef  Tone que foi quem a recrutou para o grupo. Ela o acusa de falta de ambição. Ela é ambiciosa . Esforça-se para desenvolver em si o que faz de melhor. Mesmo que fique com braços queimados. Ambição é um desejo que incentiva ao esforço para se alcançar uma habilidade e desenvolve-la . Como  na parábola dos talentos . Pôde-se esforçar-se para buscar aprimorar seu talento para se doar. Porque a doação é cuidar do outro.  Ou pode-se torná-lo como uma  fome insaciável de poder e de honras cujo objetivo é vencer a todos a qualquer custo. 

  De oferecer o que temos de melhor em nós. Thomás Édison nos fala do esforço e da transpiração.

. E a famosa frase de  Goethe: “ Quando uma criatura humana desperta para um grande sonho , e sobre ele lança toda a força de sua alma, todo o universo conspira a seu favor. “  o que obviamente não significa que basta ter pensamento forte que o sonho vai acontecer. A força da alma não é imaginação, muito menos pensamento otimista. A força da alma muitas vezes é a libertação, é o que nos diz Fernando Pessoa: “ A renúncia é a libertação, não querer é poder .” Assim como nos ensinou Jesus:” seja feita a Sua vontade, assim na  terra como no céu “.   

    O dono de restaurante também é egoista ele  só se preocupa no show de seus talentos, que sejam reconhecidos, agradecidos, mas não lhe importa o outro. Passa até por cima dos outros animais. A fome de sua ambição é insaciável. Precisa de mais, sempre. A necessidade de se superar não por amor ao que faz mas pra ser o melhor ,o mais aplaudido, mais criativo, mais necessário. Ser especial consiste nesse contexto em alcançar uma fama que  não importa o que ofereça será sempre visto como o melhor possível. 

    O filme também nos alerta para o conceito de celebridade. Uma vez alcançado  esse adjetivo , a pessoa é extraordinária , que marca a história da humanidade por suas obras ou comportamento admirável.  Mesmo que no seu oficio ofereça um caldo morno. Não importa uma vez celebridade a arrogância  de seu ser ultrapassa qualquer feito medíocre, inexpressivo. A fama e o dinheiro substituíram o talento, e a obra. Nisso o filme é muito eloquente. Valorizamos o show, o carisma , a aparência em detrimento do  talento que aliado ao trabalho pode contribuir para a evolução da nossa capacidade de sentir, saborear ou entender melhor o mundo que vivemos.  

   Aoy com a ambição de ser especial acaba por perceber como se deixa explorar por pessoas que não se importam nem com ela nem com seu talento. Entra numa guerra onde acaba por interferir na destruição de outra pessoa. O que ela pensava que ganhava por mérito estava, na verdade,  sendo usada como  bala pra os bandidos  acertarem o inimigo deles. A ambição quando desmedida passa do desejo de evoluir o próprio talento e se transforma em desespero para ocupar o lugar de outra pessoa à todo custo. E aí, começa algo, onde mérito não existe mais, e apenas o que se vê é inveja e ganância.

   Mas Aoy é uma moça inteligente e sensível e percebe na rede da vaidade que caiu e decide voltar pra sua casa onde sabe que estão as pessoas de quem vale a pena cuidar e que de fato reconhecem seu mérito, pois a amam e são  aquelas que lhe ensinaram  a se doar. 

 

 The film opens with three young people having lunch at a family restaurant. A young man is eating and after tasting Aoy's food, he gives her a card from a very famous restaurant and tells her he'll see her there tomorrow. At lunch they discuss the difficulties of entering the labour market when you come from a family with no money and no contacts with influential people, even after studying at university. In the middle of his father's lunch, a policeman asks him to move his car, which is parked in front of the restaurant, to make room for another luxury car. His father humbly thanks the policeman (probably for not fining him). Aoy looks at this event and you can sense a feeling of revolt.

   Aoy is the main cook at the restaurant along with her father. She is not satisfied with this role. She decides to research the restaurant on the card where the boy works. She decides to go and see what it's like. Even to improve her family's life. There she does a test that lasts all night and between a lot of perspiration and burns, she hits the perfect frying point, with the Chef's 

Aoy is approved to join Chef Paul's team but quits when she realises that she kills birds illegally to please her customers. 

   Chef Paul is very demanding of his employees and after accusing one of them of stealing food, he ends up being stabbed. In hospital, he tells Aoy why he chose this career. He was the son of a maid and he himself was not allowed to eat certain foods from the owners of the house. He once took a glass of caviar from his mother's mistress who dropped it, breaking the glosas. But he tried it. The deliciousness of the delicacy eventually aroused a hunger in him that made him choose to provide it to his wealthy clients. As this was a traumatic event in his childhood, making his mother work to pay for the wasted caviar, he identified with the aggressor and therefore only allowed himself to offer the appetising food to rich people.

  Aoy approaches Sous-chef Tone, who recruited her to the group. She accuses him of lacking ambition. She is ambitious. She strives to develop what she does best. Even if she gets her arms burnt off. Ambition is a desire that encourages effort to achieve a skill and develop it. As in the parable of the talents. You can strive to improve your talent for giving of yourself. Because giving is caring for others.  Or you can turn it into an insatiable hunger for power and honours whose aim is to beat everyone at any offering the best that we have in us.

 Thomás Édison tells us about effort and perspiration.

. And Goethe's famous phrase: "When a human being awakens to a great dream, and throws all the strength of his soul into it, the whole universe conspires in his favour. " Which obviously doesn't mean that if you just have a strong thought, the dream will happen. Soul force is not imagination, much less optimistic thinking. The strength of the soul is often liberation, as Fernando Pessoa tells us: "Renunciation is liberation, not to want is to be able." Just as Jesus taught us: "His will be done, on earth as it is in heaven".   

    The restaurant owner is also selfish: he only cares about showing off his talents, being recognised and thanked, but he doesn't care about the other person. He even bypasses other animals. His hunger for ambition is insatiable. It always needs more. The need to surpass himself not out of love for what he does, but to be the best, the most applauded, the most creative, the most necessary. Being special in this context consists of achieving a reputation that, no matter what you offer, will always be seen as the best possible. 

    The film also alerts us to the concept of celebrity. Once you have achieved this adjective, you are an extraordinary person who makes a mark on human history through your work or admirable behaviour.  

Even if his trade offers a lukewarm broth. Once you're a celebrity, the arrogance of your being surpasses any mediocre, unimpressive achievement. Fame and money have replaced talent and work. In this the film is very eloquent. We value showmanship, charisma and appearance to the detriment of talent, which combined with work can contribute to the evolution of our ability to feel, savour and better understand the world we live in.  

   Aoy, with her ambition to be special, ends up realising how she allows herself to be exploited by people who don't care about her or her talent. She enters a war where she ends up interfering in someone else's destruction. What she thought she was earning on merit was actually being used as a bullet for the bad guys to hit their enemy. Ambition, when unchecked, goes beyond the desire to develop one's talent and turns into desperation to take someone else's place at all costs. And then something begins, where merit no longer exists, and all you see is envy and greed.

   But Aoy is an intelligent and sensitive girl who realises that she has fallen through the net of vanity and decides to return to her home, where she knows there are people worth caring about and who really do recognise her merit, because they love her and are the ones who taught her to give of herself.
