Wil.      Caminhos da Sobrevivência.

   Filme é passado na Antuérpia, Bélgica durante a a ocupação nazista.  Wil é policial que  pretensamente deveria mediar os interesses entre o povo e os alemães ali instalados.  Essa era a função oficial dos policiais belgas. Na verdade a função deles seria apenas observar os alemães. Wil está na rua  com seu colega Lode, também  policial e encontram um oficial alemão que lhes dá ordem se segui-lo a uma determinada casa. O alemão pede dinheiro ao dono da casa saindo em seguida com sua filha e neta. No caminho o oficial deixa cair comprimidos que carregava em seu bolso . A jovem e sua filha aproveitam para fugir . O  oficial as segue atirando com fuzil. Ele consegue alcança-las e bate nelas. Wil e seu colega impedem que o oficial alemão continuasse as espancando. Wil  para defender o colega Lode, empurrou o oficial contra umas barras de  ferro , matando-o. Resolveram jogar o corpo do alemão no bueiro .  Wil volta para casa tarde e sujo de lama. Seu pai que é muito austero reclama do atraso. 

 No dia seguinte os alemães estão na delegacia policial questionando o desaparecimento do oficial alemão.  Oficial encarregado desconfia de Wil e de seu colega e leva-os para acompanhá-lo num fuzilamento de um grupo de comunistas . Grupo esse que seria responsável pela morte do oficial desaparecido na noite anterior. Mataram os dez. 

   Wil se desespera e conta para o seu pai que é funcionário público da Câmara. Seu pai o leva a um outro funcionário que é o seu chefe. E Wil  , conta-lhe tudo sobre o episódio do oficial com o argumento de que foi tudo um acidente. O alemão escorregou na lama batendo a cabeça. e  leva o chefe ao bueiro aonde escondeu o cadáver do oficial alemão.  O cadáver porém não está mais lá. O seu amigo Lode o tirou e quando Wil lhe conta sobre o desaparecimento do cadáver, Lode percebe que os alemães já sabem da participação dele também  na morte do oficial. A família de Lode se preocupa e convida Wil para jantar. No jantar , irmã de Lode confessa que não confiam nele, Will.  

   Wil é chantageado a pintar quadros para o chefe de seu pai em troca de sua proteção.Também é obrigado a entrar para uma comunidade de simpatizantes nazistas que inflamam o ódio aos judeus e os desqualificam como pessoas, comparando-os à ratos. Invadem uma sinagoga , homens espancando , batendo em senhoras , violência covarde e irracional. Will avisa aos policiais belgas sobre a violência que está acontecendo.

     Lode percebe que Wil  tem amigos nesse grupo. Lode se revolta contra ele . Wil lhe mostra, então, que ele usa o apartamento oferecido pelo chefe de seu pai onde pinta  pinta os quadros ,para esconder aquela família judia quase morta pelo oficial morto . Tambem usa o apartamento como local de encontro da resistência. 

     Wil namora irmã de Lode, Yvette. Yvette é ativa na resistência  e Wil passa a acompanha- la. Faz um jogo duplo espiona os colaboracionistas para dar informações a resistência. Mas a suspeita da morte do oficial sempre paira sobre ele. E, numa casa noturna encontra o chefe dos oficiais nazista com sua tia. Ele , pressionado e obrigado a beber . Inicia uma  briga e acaba por contar o local onde está o corpo do alemão morto. Dia seguinte vai ao encontro com o oficial que resgatou o corpo. Oficial  obriga Wil a presenciar a tortura de comandante da guarda belga e o pressiona a escolher um lado dessa guerra. A família escondida é descoberta  pelo chefe do pai de Wil . A mulher mata o chefe e Wil lhes faz passaportes para embarcarem no trem. Mas claro ele está sendo vigiado e a família acaba por ser pega e morta . Dessa vez atribuem a falsificação dos passaportes ao chefe da resistência.  Enfim, a pressão é para que se torne um colaborador pela influência e contatos que possui, além do que os oficiais querem manter relacionamento cortes com belgas e  pai de Wil é funcionário da câmara. 

  Wil cede . Viu todos os líderes morrerem . Ele diz que querem que ele divulgue o bairro  errado para a resistência para que os alemães possam pegar os judeus desprevenidos. Wil diz a Lode e Yvette sobre  a possibilidade deles sobreviverem  se derem o bairro errado. Yvette pede para que ele diga a ela aonde vai ser. Ela precisa avisar ,mesmo que ela morra. Ele diz o bairro errado a ela .

    Yvette  vai correndo para contar aos amigos que desconfiam pois tem informações diferentes. Mas ela insiste.  

    Foram, então , todos nesse bairro ,  pegos de surpresa . Muitos foram levados para os campos, outros mortos , outros se mataram.

    Para Wil e seu amigo Lode , era uma questão de sobrevivência pois estavam vigiados, seriam mortos se vazassem a informação. Para Yvette que traiu seus amigos e acabou por entregá-los ao inimigo, à morte, além de ser traída pelo homem que amava ,que a enganou, sobrou a desilusão, a culpa, a falta de sentido.    Uns escolhem o corpo, outros, a alma.

Wil.      Paths of Survival.

   The film is set in Antwerp, Belgium during the Nazi occupation.  Wil is a policeman who is supposed to mediate between the people and the Germans.  This was the official function of the Belgian police. In reality, their job was just to watch the Germans. Wil is on the street with his colleague Lode, also a policeman, and they meet a German officer who orders them to follow him to a certain house. The German asks the owner of the house for money and then leaves with his daughter and granddaughter. On the way, the officer drops pills he was carrying in his pocket. The young woman and her daughter take the opportunity to run away. The officer follows them, firing with a rifle. He manages to catch up and hits them. Wil and his colleague prevent the German officer from continuing to beat them. Wil, defending his colleague Lode, pushed the officer against some iron bars, killing him. They decided to throw the German's body in the manhole.  Wil returned home late and muddy. His stern father complains that he's late. 

 The next day the Germans are at the police station questioning the disappearance of the German officer.  The officer in charge becomes suspicious of Wil and his colleague and takes them to accompany him to a shooting of a group of communists. This group was responsible for the death of the officer who had disappeared the night before. They killed all ten of them. 

   Wil despairs and tells his father that he is a civil servant at the town hall. His father takes him to another official who is his boss. Wil tells him all about the officer's episode, arguing that it was all an accident. The German slipped in the mud and hit his head. He takes his boss to the manhole where he hid the German officer's corpse.  But the corpse is no longer there. His friend Lode took it and when Wil tells him about the disappearance of the body, Lode realises that the Germans already know that he was also involved in the officer's death. Lode's family are worried and invite Wil round for dinner. At dinner, Lode's sister confesses that they don't trust him, Will.  

   Wil is blackmailed into painting pictures for his father's boss in exchange for his protection. He is also forced to join a community of Nazi sympathisers who inflame hatred of Jews and disqualify them as people, comparing them to rats. They invade a synagogue, beating up men, beating up ladies, cowardly and irrational violence. Will warns the Belgian police about the violence taking place. 

     Lode realises that Wil has friends in this group. Lode rebels against him. Wil then shows him that he uses the flat given to him by his father's boss, where he paints his pictures, to hide that Jewish family that was almost killed by the dead officer. He also uses the flat as a meeting place for the resistance. 

     Wil is dating Lode's sister, Yvette. Yvette is active in the resistance and Wil follows her. He plays a double game, spying on the collaborationists in order to give information to the resistance. But the suspicion of the officer's death always hangs over him. Then, in a nightclub, he meets the head of the Nazi officers with his aunt. He is pressurised and forced to drink. He gets into a fight and ends up telling them where the dead German's body is. The next day he goes to meet the officer who recovered the body. The officer forces Wil to witness the torture of the commander of the Belgian Guards and pressurises him to choose a side in the war. The family in hiding is discovered by Wil's father's boss. His wife kills the boss and Wil gives them passports to board the train. But of course he is being watched and the family is caught and killed. This time they attribute the forgery of the passports to the head of the resistance.  Anyway, the pressure is on for him to become a collaborator because of the influence and contacts he has, plus the officers want to maintain a courteous relationship with the Belgians and Wil's father is a council official. 

  Wil gives in. He's seen all the leaders die. He says they want him to publicise the wrong neighbourhood to the resistance so that the Germans can catch the Jews off guard. Wil tells Lode and Yvette about the possibility of them surviving if they give out the wrong neighbourhood. Yvette asks him to tell her where it is. She has to tell him, even if she dies. He tells her the wrong neighbourhood.

    Yvette runs to tell her friends, who are suspicious because they have different information. But she insists.  

    So everyone in the neighbourhood was taken by surprise. Many were taken to the camps, others were killed, others killed themselves.

    For Wil and his friend Lode, it was a question of survival because they were being watched and would be killed if they leaked the information. For Yvette, who betrayed her friends and ended up handing them over to the enemy, to death, as well as being betrayed by the man she loved, who deceived her, there was disappointment, guilt and a lack of meaning.    Some choose the body, others the soul.
