- OFilme nos conta a história de um músico, maestro Leonard Bernstein, sua relação com a 
carreira e com família.   Leonard e Felícia se apaixonam. Os dois artistas, ele músico , maestro, 
ela, atriz. Ambos com muito talento. Felícia decide cuidar da carreira de Leonard para que ele
possa se entregar à função de maestro e compositor.  O controle da agenda  de trabalho de seu 
marido também funciona, no relacionamento do casal, como uma tentativa dela de mantê-lo , de 
alguma forma, menos impulsivo.

     

     O   filme enfatiza a necessidade de utilizar-se os talentos.  Quando questionada sobre seu 

trabalho como atriz . Responde com constrangimento porque  não atua mais . Coisa que no 

filme é sub- entendido  como sendo um desperdício  imperdoável . Como se não fosse possível 

possuir mais de um talento . Felícia é boa atriz embora tenha em si a capacidade de doação  

também incomum. Essa é a maneira de se representar no mundo que ela escolhe. Criar os filhos 

e cuidar do marido  , talento outrora não reconhecido e, as vezes, até menosprezado. Sua 

capacidade de generosa doação vem  associada a admiração pelo talento de seu companheiro. 

       Leonardo ao contrário da esposa quer se sentir livre para fazer o que quiser pois o sucesso 

cada vez maior,  muitas vezes é acompanhado do sentimento de excepcionalidade, de possuir 

um eu superior, que traz a convicção de que não pode ter limites. Leonardo se apaixona por um rapaz. 

Independente do sexo do amante ,esse relacionamento traz muito ciúmes a Felícia e muita raiva levando-a a  

afastar-se do marido. Procura viver sem ele.

          Mas com o tempo , ela percebe o tamanho da parceria que foi construída entre eles.  Escolhe perdoá-lo.

O reencontro ocorre no momento em que ele está regendo de forma excepcional uma sinfonia de Gustav Malher.  

Leonardo fica feliz em ver a companheira de sua vida.  

        Felícia fica doente. Na  convalescência dela Leonardo demonstra toda a gratidão pelos anos de 

doação. Leonardo pela primeira vez, abre mão de seus interesses narcísicos  e se dedica a ela de forma a minimizar 

o sofrimento de uma doença terminal,  dolorosa.  É a outra face de Leonardo. É a face amorosa fruto da gratidão de Leonardo.

The film tells the story of a musician, conductor Leonard Bernstein, his relationship with his 

career and family.   Leonard and Felicia fall in love. The two artists, he a musician, a conductor, 

she, an actress. Both very talented. Felicia decides to look after Leonard's career so that he can

     The film emphasises the need to use one's talents.  When asked about her
