      O filme passa- se em Narvik,  baseado em fatos reais. Cidade da Noruega ,litorânea ,rica em minério de ferro.  No início é uma cidadezinha próspera , neutra , que vende o minério para os dois lados da guerra. 

       O exercito da Noruega tinha a função de garantir a neutralidade do país. E , ainda estão propondo um acordo entre Reino Unido e Alemanha que permita que seus respectivos  navios após se abastecerem com o ferro, saiam do Porto com segurança, sem risco de serem bombardeados,  para chegar ao seu destino, as fábricas de ambos países. 

       As partes estão reunidas num hotel da cidade. Ingrid é a tradutora inglês/ alemão.  Gunnar, seu marido e cabo do exército, está de licença e quando retorna para a base , já pela madrugada  encontra a tropa  alemã.   Afundaram  o navio norueguês e invadiram o porto. Noruega se rende à Alemanha e os soldados ,decepcionados ,resolvem como um ato de resistência, explodir a ponte para que o minério não chegue ao Porto aonde estão os alemães.

        Entretanto , Ingrid que trabalha no hotel e fala alemão é  constrangida a dar as chaves dos quartos inclusive do que está hospedado o cônsul inglês. O alemão propõe até um aumento pra ela e fala da importância de sua colaboração numa atitude de suborno que  dá a sensação a ela de estar fazendo algo errado. Aí começa a saga da tradutora que mais que tradução vai ter de gerir a guerra das partes que ali permanecem, além de tentar proteger seu marido que destruiu a ponte de acesso ferroviário da cidade.

       Os ingleses hospedados no hotel foram escondidos numa cabana nas montanhas por ela .  Eles propõem que ela espione os alemães a fim de descobrir os locais de artilharia.  Ingrid não quer se envolver mais do que já está envolvida e não quer por em risco ainda mais a si e sua família.  É, então ,acusada de ter se aliado aos inimigos. Os ingleses contam que sabem que ela pediu ao cônsul alemão por seu marido. E a chantageiam ameaçando revelar que ela os escondeu e dessa forma colocá-la em situação difícil com os alemães. Dessa forma a forçam a colaborar , a usam, sem sentirem a mínima gratidão pelo fato de ter lhes salvado a vida e até a tratando como inimiga e ameaçando sua vida e de sua família. A arrogância do cônsul que pressupõe sua vida e de seu general,  superior a vida dela e de sua família. Quem pode ou não na guerra ser sacrificado?  Me recorda os antigos poderosos que sacrificavam crianças e mulheres aos deuses, para ter uma boa colheita. Sem opção, Ingrid colabora mesmo arriscando sua vida. 

    Os ingleses bombardeiam a cidade dominada pelos alemães . Nesse ataque morre o pai de Gunnar e seu filho é ferido. Sua casa destruída. Ingrid em desespero pede ajuda  ao cônsul alemão . Precisa de médico para o filho que está com infecção causada por uma bala no peito. Novamente ouve : agora é a vida dos alemães que é prioridade e, portanto,  o médico ocupado não poderá vir .  Com objetivo de salvar a vida de seu filho ela entrega os ingleses revelando o local do esconderijo. Antes do cônsul alemão  ir embora  convida Ingrid a ir com ele e a avisa que os alemães retornarão e  destruirão a cidade.  Talvez com o objetivo de convencê-la a ir com ele lhe conta que seu marido está fora da lista o que lhe dá a entender que ele morreu. Artifício inventado para apoiar a ideia de que, a mulher , só, não sobreviverá. 

       A tropa norueguesa com o reforço da tropa francesa vencem  então os alemães que se evadem de Narvik. Para eles é como se a guerra tivesse acabado, são os heróis voltando. Orgulhosos de seu feito, sentem-se libertos e grandiosos. 

       Amiga de Ingrid dá a entender a Gunnar  que foi traído pela esposa, com os alemães. Ingrid está saindo da cidade com Ole seu filho, quando reencontra o marido que movido pelo entusiamo da vitória acrescido do sentimento de patriotismo a acusa de traição da pátria. A cidade a repudia. 

Com a morte do amigo Gunnar, reflete. Quem pode culpar uma mãe que luta pra salvar seu filho, a pessoa que mais ama ?  

       “Minha  pátria,  minha língua “ nos diz Pessoa. Mas nossa língua é sempre a língua materna. E as mulheres como nos diz Adélia Prado, são desdobráveis.  E vemos todos os desdobramentos       de uma mulher lutando por sua família , grande guerreira! 

         

   

NARVIK

      The film is set in Narvik, based on real events. A city on the coast of Norway, rich in iron ore.  At first it was a prosperous, neutral town that sold its ore to both sides of the war. 

       The Norwegian army had the task of guaranteeing the country's neutrality. They are also proposing an agreement between the United Kingdom and Germany that will allow their respective ships to leave the port safely, without the risk of being bombed, to reach their destination, the factories of both countries. 

       The parties are meeting in a hotel in the city. Ingrid is the English/German translator.  Gunnar, her husband and an army corporal, is on leave and when he returns to the base at dawn he meets the German troops.   They have sunk the Norwegian ship and invaded the harbour. Norway surrenders to Germany and the disappointed soldiers decide, as an act of resistance, to blow up the bridge so that the ore doesn't reach the harbour where the Germans are.

        Meanwhile, Ingrid, who works in the hotel and speaks German, is forced to give up the keys to the rooms, including the one the British consul is staying in. The German even offers her a raise and talks about the importance of her co-operation in a bribery move that gives her the feeling that she is doing something wrong. Then begins the saga of the translator who, more than translation, will have to manage the war between the parties that remain there, as well as trying to protect her husband who has destroyed the city's railway access bridge.

         The British staying at the hotel have been hidden by her in a hut in the mountains.  They propose that she spy on the Germans in order to discover their artillery sites.  Ingrid doesn't want to get any more involved than she already is and doesn't want to jeopardise herself and her family even more.  She is then accused of having allied herself with the enemy. The British tell her that they know she asked the German consul for her husband. They blackmail her by threatening to reveal that she has hidden them and thus put her in a difficult situation with the Germans. In this way, they force her to collaborate, use her, without feeling the slightest gratitude for the fact that she saved their lives, and even treat her as an enemy and threaten her life and that of her family. The arrogance of the consul who assumes that his life and that of his general are superior to the lives of her and her family. Who can and cannot be sacrificed in war?  It reminds me of the ancient powers who sacrificed children and women to the gods in order to have a good harvest. Without a choice, Ingrid collaborates, even at the risk of her life. 

    The British bombard the German-held city. Gunnar's father dies in the attack and his son is wounded. Their house is destroyed. Ingrid desperately asks the German consul for help. She needs a doctor for her son, who has an infection caused by a bullet in his chest. Again she hears: it's the Germans' lives that are the priority now, so the busy doctor won't be able to come.  In order to save her son's life, she turns the British in and reveals the location of their hideout. Before the German consul leaves, he invites Ingrid to go with him and warns her that the Germans will return and destroy the city.  Perhaps with the aim of convincing her to go with him, he tells her that her husband is off the list, implying that he is dead. A ruse invented to support the idea that a woman alone will not survive. 

       The Norwegian troops, reinforced by French troops, defeat the Germans, who flee Narvik. For them it's as if the war is over, the heroes are back. Proud of their achievement, they feel liberated and great. 

       Ingrid's friend tells Gunnar that his wife has betrayed him to the Germans. Ingrid is leaving the city with her son Ole when she meets her husband again. Moved by the enthusiasm of victory plus the feeling of patriotism, he accuses her of betraying her homeland. The town repudiates her. 

With the death of her friend Gunnar, she reflects. Who can blame a mother who fights to save her son, the person she loves most?  

       "My homeland, my language," Pessoa tells us. But our language is always our mother tongue. And women, as Adélia Prado tells us, are unfoldable.  And we see all the unfolding of a woman fighting for her family, a great warrior!
